Au Naturel

Beauty

au naturel

adjective & adverb

in the natural ‘state’

In beauty au naturel is the fruit of hard labor. It is the art of effortless beauty, that does require effort but that must remain our secret.

ON SKIN

How: Avoid using foundation, this will only put our secret at risk. Skin should look natural. But if you are anything like me you can mix your foundation with moisturizer to mute its effect or simply use concealer on blemishes. {Post inspired by How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are by Anne Berest}.

1. Moisturize. This step is very important, it makes your pores look next to invisible which makes your skin look silk smooth.

2. Conceal. Hide the bags under your eyes, the sides of your nose & pimples {because you had a little too much Godiva yesterday}.

3. Accentuate & Disguise. A little mascara never killed nobody. Apply a couple coats of mascara on both your top and bottom lashes.

4. Brighten. For a night out, apply bold red lipstick. I know I said this was a natural look but what says natural if not red lips?

ON EXTREMITIES

How: Keep clean, short nails at all times. On occasion add nail polish. I love to wear blush pink and nude tones. Simplicity is key.

Despite every effort. Embrace and cherish your imperfections {the slightly crooked tooth, or the barely there gap in your smile, prominent eyebrows or strong nose} these are all signs of strength of character.
